Barbara Sledz

...your child's home away from home!

Barbara Sledz has owned and operated Pumpkin Patch Daycare since 1990. What has started as a family daycare run out of her home with a humble staff of just herself has blossomed into the group home daycare facility that you see today, boasting an indoor space of 811 square feet, 7,000 square feet of outdoor play and staffed by three teachers at all times. In addition, a registered nurse visits the daycare once a week.

Barbara has an impressive resume that she incorporates into her management of the daycare. She attended St. Joseph's College, a teaching college located in Brooklyn, New York.  She graduated with Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Mathematics and minoring in both Education and Physics. She went on to continue her education by attending and graduating from Fordham University with a Masters of Science in Teaching in Mathematics (MST). Since becoming involved in childcare services in 1990, she has completed twenty-two additional credits in the field of Early Childhood Education and has completed fourteen (out of seventeen) levels in the Connecticut Chart of Course Program. She is also a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), member of the Greater Bridgeport Director's Group, and is licensed in First Aid, CPR, and Administration of Medication and Epi-pen.

In addition to her education, Barbara also brings her own personal experiences as a parent. With her husband, Zig, of 36 years and counting, they have proudly raised their two children, Julie, 30 years of age, and Greg, 27 years of age, and have tremendously enjoyed watching them grow up into the successful adults that they are today. Since opening Pumpkin Patch Daycare, Barbara has had the privilege of being a part of over fifty families and taking care of over eighty children. Many of the families still keep in touch to this day and have been know to stop by just for a friendly hello.
